This winter has been mild, compared to last year, for which I am so grateful. I am not saying it hasn't been cold. It has. I am not saying it hasn't been long. Because it has. But last year was so bitterly cold and unusually long, that we hibernated all winter, only leaving the house when absolutely necessary and had several cancelled school days. This year we have only had one cancelled school day and one 2-hour delay due to severely cold temps.
And then, there's the snow...we just haven't had much. By the end of last winter I was severely regretting our decision not to buy a snow blower. This December we only had a dusting of snow here and there. January brought 1-2 inches a time or two. We actually found ourselves wanting a little more snow!
Wisconsin delivered on February 1st with our first (and so far, last) real storm. It began snowing Saturday evening and continued to snow all day Sunday. Church was cancelled, which we kind of all loved. Snow days can be pretty awesome! We shoveled. And shoveled some more. The boys started off helping with the shoveling efforts, but before long the neighbors were out shoveling and sleds soon replaced those shovels. Probably not very Sabbath worthy, but we let them play as we worked. We warmed up to hot chocolate when we finally finished shoveling (only to have to do it again later as well).

The following weekend turned out to be perfect for sledding. It was sunny, no wind and nearly 30 degrees. My neighbor called me up on Friday just before the kids got home from school and asked if we wanted to go sledding "on this perfect day." We ditched homework time and took her up on her offer. We walked down our street to the park with sleds in hand.
The kids had so much fun! Nobody wanted to leave, myself included. Saturday turned out to be and even better day, except that it was warm enough (36 degrees) to melt our precious snow! We decided to get out again for some sledding fun before all the snow was gone.
This past Saturday it got up to 40 degrees! Porter begged, "Mom, it is so hot outside...can we please go out and ride our bikes?" It makes me laugh that our kids think 40 degrees is hot. We didn't get on the bikes that day, but we took an hour walk as a family along the trails by our house. It felt so good to be out in the non-freezing fresh air.

This week has continued to be wonderful...temps in the 50's. We are enjoying the opportunity to get outside and play. Dare I say that it feels like spring!
Haha, I love that 40 degrees is hot. I guess I won't mention the 80 degree shorts and swimming weather we have had in vegas!
