Pinewood Derby Race

Luke has had so much fun in Cub Scouts.  He doesn't necessarily love all the work of passing things off, but he LOVES going to Cub Scouts on Wednesday nights.  We go together since I am always at the church on Wednesday evenings for my calling in the Young Women.  I like my time with him as we drive to and from.

In January, Luke worked alongside his dad (and even his mom) building a pinewood derby.  David will freely admit that he is not handy (just in case you think I am throwing him under the bus), and did not look forward to building a car.  Since we were both clueless, I bought a book on the basics of building a pinewood derby to help us out.  Even with the extra help from the book, we thought we built a dud, and as we were gliding it across our hardwood floors the night before the race, we could sense the disappointment in Luke.  We went to bed hoping he would at least win a race or two.  Well, he ended up winning a lot of races and came in second place!  He was thrilled!

Last weekend all the winners went to the district races.  David, Luke and Caden went.  David said it was pretty intense.  It makes me laugh...we are just not that into this pinewood derby thing.  We do have a lot of years of pinewood derby's ahead of us, though!  Luke's car raced in the slowest heat, but won first place in that heat.  Way to go Luke!
