Boys on Bikes

Caden has been cruising around on his balance bike (it has no pedals) for months now.  He loves it.  And he is fast.  So fast, that I am amazed he hasn't hurt himself.

This 4-year old (soon to be 5) has been wanting to get on a bicycle with pedals, but Luke has still been using the little bike.  Yeah, I know...it's tiny and Luke is not so tiny anymore.  His new bike (16" wheels) has been sitting in the garage, in a box, for somebody to put it together.  We seem to be lacking in extra time at our house.  Luke has been pestering us and last week it got put together!

That meant Caden got to test out a real bike.  It was fun to watch him learn.  I love these balance bikes because the transition to a bike with pedals is so much easier.  No need for training wheels.  Caden surprised me a bit with his determination and good attitude.  This child will sometimes quit when things get tricky, but nothing was going to stop him this time.  He kept trying and trying and trying.

Here is a video of him on his second try down our street.

Within a few days he was cruising down the street on his bike.
And fast too.
Luke is liking his bigger bike.  His knees no longer hit the handlebars. :-)

Porter has now commandeered the balance bike.  This 2-year old does not like being left behind.  He was so excited to "ride a bike" like his big brothers.

Traffic jam.
I love watching them all ride down the street together.
