Kindergarten Registration

David took Luke to Kindergarten Registration on Monday!  Luke was so excited.

He was over-the-top happy the whole day.

Registration is interesting here.  It is first come, first serve.  On registration day everyone stands in a line at the school and the first 100 are admitted to the elementary.  What happens to the others?  They will attend another school that has room for them.  Come August, they will be dropped off at the school they should have attended and then take a bus to the school they will attend.  And to make it even better, siblings don't take priority.  Meaning you could have one child "make it" into the school and the next child not make it and have to attend a different school than their sibling.  Crazy system!  Needless to say, David was there an hour early to make sure our little kindergartner will attend the school in our boundaries, which is just around the corner from us.  They were 15th in line.  David was glad he got there so early as the line quickly became quite long!

Only one student from Luke's preschool will attend his elementary, and chances are they will not end up in the same class together. I am not worried, though, as he has come a long way, socially, during the past year. He did tell me that he didn't talk to any of his new friends, as they were standing in line, on Monday. He will get to know them soon enough.

And I love that he is already calling them his friends.
