If you didn't know, Luke has had many ear infections with no relief. After a couple medical opinions it was ear tubes for Luke. Yesterday, Luke and I (dad) headed over to the hospital for a little in/out surgery to get the ear tubs. Below are a few pictures from post-op.
We denied use of the pre-op sedation med (Versed) against the doctors wishes. They don't like dealing with scared, whiny children when going to the OR, but us parents don't like the nasty side effects when they wake with Versed in the system after surgery (not good!). They wheeled him away from me to the operating room and he just put the anesthesia mask over his own face (like we practiced) and went with the flow. He wasn't afraid. Then, 15 minutes later, he came back to me in the post-op recovery room and gradually, calmly came back to consciousness. The surgeon, anesthesiologist and nurses all said he was great. I was so proud of my son!
Here are a few pictures from surgery day:
Here he is with the nurse checking his vitals post-op.
Studying the popsicle to assess whether it's worth the drugged up effort.
It was worth it! A nice post-op pick-me-up with the added bonus of lip color.
Ok... the drugs are starting to wear off. Time to go home and get some meds from a liberal drug sharing RN named Mom!
What a trooper!! And smart of you guys not to give him the drugs!
