A couple of days before Halloween our ward (church congregation) had a "Fall Festival" that included a trunk-or-treat. Dinner was served, but our boys don't eat chili so we ate beforehand and chatted with friends while they ate. We did bring cornbread to share and it won 1st place. Yay!

Costumes changed a bit on Halloween since it was only 34 degrees. Porter became a warm dalmatian and Ryland was a toasty little monkey.

Our city has a designated trick-or-treat time, which is 5:00 - 7:30pm. So, for 2.5 hours the door is more open than not. The stream of trick-or-treaters is constant. Then, all of a sudden there is no one out. It is awesome. David and I were able to close the door, put the kids to bed and enjoy a movie together!
I have been wanting a cool witch hat for a long time. My mom found this one in Utah and mailed it to me! She also made me the black and orange witch's cape to match. I didn't get a very good picture of the hat while on my head, so here is the front and back.

This little monkey was a crack up. He was so interested in all the goings on around him (and therefore very slow) that he pretty much missed trick-or-treating all together. His brothers were at the door and on to the next home by the time Ryland caught up. Our neighborhood is a big circle, so after we finished the inner loop, I dropped him off at our house with David (to help him hand out candy) and finished the outer loop with the bigger boys. Things sped up quite a bit after that (which was nice since we were all cold!).

I had to include a picture of my mom in her rad witch costume. She made herself a cape to match her hat as well. I LOVE that my mom gets into Halloween! She worked in a junior high library for years (now retired!) and dressed up with the other librarian each Halloween. She has some pretty awesome costumes!
My sister, Tiffany, was "Thing 3" for Halloween. My mom (who is amazing) made the costume as well.
How lucky for the trick-or-treaters who were handed out candy by these two!
